Safety and privacy
Working draft 0.1 for legal review, not yet in force. Open points are marked [TO CONFIRM].
Brotelo is a place where children aged 8 to 14 learn. We designed it so that children are safe and parents stay in control.
What you will not find on Brotelo
- No chat: children cannot send or receive messages, and there are no comments or forums.
- No public profiles: a child profile is visible only in your family account.
- No ads: no advertising, no ad trackers, and no prices or offers in the children's area.
- No selling of data: we never sell or rent personal data.
- No AI chatbot for children: children never chat with an artificial intelligence on Brotelo.
- No uploads: children cannot upload photos, videos or files.
Parents stay in control
- Only adults have accounts. You create a profile for each child, with a nickname, an age and a preset avatar.
- Children open their profile on your device, and you can protect each profile with a 4-digit PIN.
- You see your child's progress, quiz results and certificates in the parent area.
- Certificates are private by default; you decide whether one can be checked publicly.
- You can change or delete a child profile, or your whole account, at any time.
Healthy screen time
- Each course has 10 to 15 illustrated slides and a short quiz, so it fits into short sessions.
- Lessons are offline-friendly: [TO CONFIRM: what this means in the product, for example activities to do away from the screen, or lessons that work without an internet connection].
- We suggest that children learn with you or near you, and that you talk together about what they learned.
Content made for children
Courses are written for children aged 8 to 14, in simple words. [TO CONFIRM: the editorial review process, for example who checks facts and age-appropriateness before a course is published.] If you think something in a course is wrong or not suitable, tell us and we will review it.
Privacy
We collect as little as possible about children, never use their data for advertising, and never run visit statistics in the children's area. Details are in our Privacy notice, and a short version for children is on our page "Privacy for kids".
Report a problem
If you see something on Brotelo that worries you, write to [email protected] with "Safety" in the subject. Tell us what happened, where (the page or the course) and when. Please do not send more personal data about your child than needed.
We treat safety reports as a priority. [TO CONFIRM: the response time for safety reports, for example 2 working days.] If a child may be in danger, contact the emergency services first.
Help for children
- 116 111 is a free and confidential helpline for children in many European countries. Children can call to talk about anything that worries them. [TO CONFIRM: that 116 111 is active in each target country, including the Republic of Moldova.]
- In the United Kingdom, children can call Childline on 0800 1111.
- In an emergency, call 112 in the European Union, or your local emergency number.
- Child Helpline International lists helplines in other countries at childhelplineinternational.org.
